Twilight Friday & State Combined Weekend
This week we have a Twilight meeting scheduled for Friday 29th starting at 6pm, unfortunately the weather doesn’t look great, so keep an eye out on Team App for any news. We will make a call by later afternoon if it will be cancelled.
This weekend is the State Combined Event which is being held at Lakeside Stadium in Albert Park, best of luck to the 26 Essendon Athletes who will compete. Details about the weekend including family duty roster have been sent to all families, please check in with Jamie Arceri who is Team Manager on arrival.
- Not too late to get involved in relays, looks for lots of athletes to complete, the group had a training session with leading Australia sprinter Jack Hale on Monday. Please speak with Angela Bremner to get involved.
- Region Track and Field to be held at Coburg this year, we are hopeful registrations will open for that in the coming days.
Already late January, time for week 8
Two weeks back from Christmas and enjoying the calm before the storm, with the second half of the season busy with Combined, Relays and Track and Field Championships. As always we would love to see as many athletes get involved as possible, so please keep an eye out for entries and details.
Week 8 Program has been released, check it out here
Note: Change to original schedule, we will now run a twilight meeting starting at 6pm on Jan 29th instead of the planned competition on Sat Jan 30th.
- For those registered, State Combined Event will be held over the weekend of Jan 30-31.
- Replay training will begin, make sure you reach out to Angela Bremner to get involved, we are hosting at Essendon this year.
- Keep a look out for entries to open for the Region Track and Field to be held at Coburg this year.
Week 5 – Final Competition before Christmas Break
Was terrific to see our retuning athletes from the 2019/20 season receive their medals and trophies last weekend, much deserved by all and thanks to Jamie Arceri for organsing the popcorn and slushies which were enjoyed by all.
This week we have program 2, getting in a final competition before we have a little break for Christmas festivities.
- Parents need to ensure they are getting duty points, by signing up to help at the tables in front of the BBQ. There are lots of jobs to help with and no prior experience with athletics is required to help.
- State Combined Championship entries are now open, get over to LAVIC.com.au to register.
- We will resume for week 6 with a twilight meeting on Friday Jan 8th at 6pm.
Week 4 – Lots Going On
Already into our 4th week and everyone is starting to settle back in and plenty already getting a few PB’s, this week brings another lot of opportunities. We’ll have program 1 this week, for those not familiar with our programs please take a look here, we usually rotate through these every three weeks.
This week we’ll finally be handing out the 2019/20 Summer Season awards that you’ve all been waiting so long to receive. Centre awards will be handed out across the morning, listen out for your age group to be called. Team awards will follow the completion on the program in your usual team areas, we look forward to see lots of happy faces.
- Carol has been busy taking some great shots over the last two weeks, get over to TeamApp to check them out.
- Week 5 (Dec 19th) will be our final competition before we break for Christmas, we’ll resume with a twilight meeting on Friday Jan 8th at 6pm.
Week 3 Arrives as Centre Records Fall
Ready to jump into week 3, the program and weekly update has been posted to Team App and also in the calendar section (link below.) The program is highlighted by the debut of Hurdles for U9 and above, some High Jump and Javelin. As is always the case, no athletes or parents should cross the middle of the arena at any point.
We’ll again have no canteen or BBQ this week, but we’ll resume the sale of Team T-Shirts, so get over to your team table and they can help you out. Make sure that you continue to observe social distancing, so please don’t all head to the table at once.
Two weeks in and we’ve already seen several Centre records fall, congratulation to all on these great achievements so early in the season:
Week 2 – Wrap
Great to see another good turnout in some friendly weather again, the return to competition has been a tremendous success so far. Thanks to all those who have got involved and help the mornings run so smoothly, the contribution of our volunteers and families can never be understated, we are all very lucky.
Don’t forget to head over to ResultsHQ to check on all those times and distances and see if there might even be a few early season PB’s.
For those families who have joined us as trial athletes and used up your two weeks, make sure you get on and Register for the season. We want to see as many of you back to enjoy the fun and competition, make a few more friends and develop those skills. Registration is only $100 for the full season, including the winter cross country season, you won’t find a better deal anywhere!
Stay tuned for the Week 3 program and the full season calendar, now that we finally have a little more clarity around how that may look going forward.
Another exciting week planned, we’ve added some more events as the updated COVID protocols provide us with a little more freedom. Although we’ll still require QR code on entry and events will still be sanitising, our attendance cap is now at 500, so more family can now attend and enjoy the morning. Just remember to socially distance please!
First track events of the morning will be the 1500 meters and the Under 6’s doing 60 meters, so don’t be late!
Remember not to forget a Hat, Sunscreen, Water and some Food, as we will still not be running the Canteen or BBQ this week.
Check out the full program and details Here
Week 1 Complete
Amazing to be back at the track, welcoming back our families and so many new faces. Thanks to everyone to helped on the day to, seems like everyone enjoyed catching up with friends, competing and having a fun time.
With the announcements on Sunday from the Government we will likely see some changes to how we operated last week, we are currently waiting on this direction from LAVic. These changes will hopefully affect this coming weekend and see us move closer to the program you have become accustom too.
Saturday looks warm so remember not to forget a Hat, Sunscreen, Water and some Food.
Look for more updates to come in the next day or two for the Week 2 program.
Registrations are OPEN!
The Registration Portal is now open to New and Returning athletes
We now move another step closer to the return to competition at ELAC, now time to get on and sign up for the 2020/21 season. As we have already shared we have cut our registration fee down to just $100 per athlete, one of the lowest in the state.
So now for some important points:
- To enable us to plan around the COVID safe requirements, we require anyone wishing to compete on Nov 21st to have registered by 7:00pm Thursday November 19th.
- All adults entering the track will be required to sign in with a provided QR code on their mobile device.
- COVID restrictions allow for only 1 parent to attend, unless a second parent has a pre arranged duty to fill
- We will run a modified program in Week 1, exact details will be shared next week with the first events to commence at 8:30am. This will include age group specific start times to minimise the numbers at the track across the morning.
- There will be NO canteen or BBQ
New athletes are able to sign up for a free two week trial at https://lavic.com.au/membership/new-member/trial-athlete-offer/
We hope these restrictions will only be imposed for a short time and we can return to our usual program soon enough. We thank everyone for their understanding and can’t wait to see you all down at the track on Nov 21st.
