Helping Every Athlete Reach Their Potential

At ELAC, coaching is about far more than improving performance. Our coaching program helps athletes develop confidence, technique, resilience and a lifelong love of athletics. Whether your child is participating for fun or working towards Regional and State Championships, our coaches provide encouragement and guidance every step of the way.

Coaching is available to all registered ELAC athletes at no additional cost and is completely optional. It's a fantastic opportunity to improve skills, build confidence and meet athletes from other age groups in a fun, supportive environment.

Centre-Level Coaching

Our weekly Monday evening coaching sessions provide athletes with the opportunity to develop their skills outside of Saturday competition. Sessions focus on age-appropriate learning, correct technique and personal development in a positive and encouraging environment.

Training programs vary throughout the year to align with the athletics season. During the cross-country season, training commences at 5:00 pm each Monday, with athletes generally divided into groups based on age, depending on numbers.

What We Coach

Throughout the season, athletes have the opportunity to develop skills across a range of events, including:

  • Sprints
  • Middle Distance
  • Jumps
  • Throws
  • Relay Changeovers

Our coaching programs are designed to match each athlete's stage of development, ensuring learning remains enjoyable, achievable and rewarding.

Relay Training

Specialised relay training is provided for athletes selected to compete at Regional and State Relay Championships. Training dates and times will be communicated to eligible athletes closer to the commencement of the summer season.

Additional Coaching Opportunities

Athletes aged Under 9 and above who are looking for additional coaching outside of ELAC are encouraged to contact Athletics Essendon, which offers access to qualified coaches across a range of disciplines, including coaches experienced in working with younger athletes.

Coaching Resources

Our Coaching Resource Library provides coaches, Age Group Managers and volunteers with easy access to coaching materials, training resources and seasonal information.

Parents and athletes can also access a range of coaching and technique videos to assist with skill development and gain a better understanding of correct athletic techniques.
